This may take up to one year, in which time your check will be outstanding from your account. Once your check is forwarded to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, it is non-refundable. When the 3,000 reservations are made we will contact you to let you know that the plate is proceeding. The RMV will notify you when the plates are available for pick up In addition to the $40 Specialty Plate application fee, there will be a $20 RMV swap plate fee to transfer your current registration to a new Land & Water Plate. $12 of the $40 specialty plate fee goes to the RMV for plate production; the remaining $28 goes to protect land and is tax-deductible. Registration renewals cost $81 every two years. The renewal fee includes a $41 registration fee and the tax-deductible $40 Land & Water Plate fee that will be used for protecting land.
